1976–77 European Cup

The European Champions' Cup 1976/77 was the 22nd edition of the competition and was won for the first time from Liverpool FC in the final against Borussia Mönchengladbach. 32 club teams participated, including 31 national champion of the previous season with Bayern Munich and the three-time defending champion, who failed to Dynamo Kiev in the quarterfinals. Scene of the finale was on 25 May 1977, the Olympic Stadium Rome.

It was only the second title of an English team, but should follow the six more in a row. Including this reached Liverpool five finals in nine years, of which he won four.

The participants played in the Cup mode with pure (except for the final) round-trip games for the crown of European club football. In Torgleichstand first counted the greater number of away goals scored; there was also this a tie, the second leg was extended and, if necessary, immediately then discharged a penalty shootout to decide.
