1977–78 IHL season

The season 1977/78 was the 33rd regular season of the International Hockey League. During the regular season, nine teams denied each of 80 games. In the play-offs, the Toledo Goal Diggers prevailed and won the second Turner Cup in their history.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Dayton Gems were inactive.
  • The Milwaukee Admirals of the United States Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Columbus Owls were sold before the season and Dayton, Ohio, relocated, where they began the season under the name Dayton Owls. In December 1977, the team was moved again, this time to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and ended the season as the Grand Rapids Owls.
