1977–78 UEFA Cup
The UEFA Cup 1977/78 was the seventh edition of the competition and was won by PSV Eindhoven.
From the Federal Republic of Germany took Eintracht Braunschweig Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 in the competition, from the GDR of FC Carl Zeiss Jena and 1.FC Magdeburg, from Austria Linz ASK and SK Rapid Wien from Switzerland Servette Geneva and the two clubs FC Zurich and Grasshoppers. For the Grasshoppers Zurich the semi-finals was the biggest success so far at European level this season.
Mode
The competition was held in six rounds, in home and away matches. In Torgleichstand initially decided the number of away goals scored, then there was an extension and a penalty shoot-out.
