1978–79 FDGB-Pokal

The football fdgb Cup 1978/79 was the 28th edition of this competition. From the eighth to the semi-finals found as in the previous year instead of outward and return legs.

The Cup event began with three qualifying matches where three DDR - division and three District Cup finalists were involved. With Dynamo Gera and steel valley, two district representatives were interspersed.

In the first main round of 55 East German division, 15 district finalists and the two met each successive league relegated from the previous season. After a second round with 36 teams attacked the 14 league teams in the second main round in the competition. of these secreted bismuth Aue, Bohlen chemistry, chemical hall, Stahl Riesa and Sachsenring Zwickau already out after their first appearance.

In the 28th final of the fdgb Cup five-time cup winners 1.FC Magdeburg and in the current league season clashed leading edge Berliner FC Dynamo with eight points.
