1978–79 Nationale A season

The 1978/79 season was the 57th season of the National A, the highest French Hockey League. Champion for a total of 30 times in the club's history the Chamonix Hockey Club. CPM Croix descended to the second division.

Mode

The ten teams completed in the main round each of 18 games. The top six teams qualified for the final round, in which the Master was played. The four last placed athlete had to compete against the top two teams of the second division in the relegation. The teams ranked 7 and 8 received four and two bonus points for the play-offs. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
