1978 Norwegian First Division

The first Divisjon 1978 was the 34th season of the highest Norwegian Football League and the 16th season under the name 1 Divisjon. The season began on April 23, 1978 and ended on 15 October 1978.

Mode

The twelve teams played in a single round with round-trip game against each other so that each team completed 22 games. Master was the Leading after the last matchday. The last three teams had to dismount.

Season

IK Start is the first time Norwegian champion.

From the beginning it was a duel for the lead between IK Start and Lillestrøm SK. There was a constant change, could intervene in the sporadic yet other teams. Through a home defeat on the final day of Lillestrøm and the simultaneous victory of IK Start, finally won by IK Start. Strange was that Viking was always in reach of these two teams, but never passed by them. They occupied from 10 to 22 Matchday throughout the 3rd place.

Of the climbers Lyn Oslo, Oslo Skeid and Steinkjær I & FK only Skeid Oslo could hold in the first Divisjon.
