1979 Challenge Cup
The Challenge Cup was a hockey series three games in 1979 between an All-Star selection of players from the North American professional league National Hockey League and the national team of the USSR. The matches were played City at Madison Square Garden in the U.S. New York and replaced the NHL All-Star Game of the season 1978 / 79th
Unlike its predecessor, the Summit Series, participated in international comparisons and non- Canadian players participate. The matches were played on 8, 10 and 11 February 1979. After the NHL All-Stars had won the first game, beat the USSR back in the next two games. After a narrow victory in the second game by a single goal, they won the third and final game clearly with 6:0. The top scorer of the series was the Russian Boris Mikhailov with a total of three hits. On the part of the NHL Mike Bossy scored two goals and had four points most successful scorer in the series. The goalkeeper Vladimir Myshkin was achieved in the third game of the series a shutout.
