1979 Norwegian First Division

The first Divisjon 1979 was the 35th season of Norway's highest football league and the 17th season under the name 1 Divisjon. The season began on April 22, 1979 and ended on 14 October 1979.

Mode

The twelve teams played in a single round with round-trip game against each other so that each team completed 22 games. Master was the Leading after the last matchday. The last three teams had to dismount.

Season

Viking Stavanger was the sixth time Norwegian champion. They also won the third Cup victory. This was the first double for Viking.

Viking led the table almost the whole season over. At half time they had up to four points ahead. Towards the end, however, IK Start and Moss FK came again approach, also briefly took over the championship lead, but in the end prevailed then still Viking.

Of the climbers Hamarkameratene, Mjøndalen IF Rosenborg BK Rosenborg BK could only hold in the first Divisjon.
