1979 Pan American Games

The VIII Pan American Games were held in the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan from 1 to 15 July 1979.

At the Games 3,700 athletes participated from 34 countries. Central competition venue was the Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

During the Pan American Games competitions have been held in 22 sports. Successful nation were the United States with a total of 266 medals.
