1980–81 DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey) season

The East German Ice Hockey Championship 1980/81 brought after five seasons again a change at the top of the league with them. The SG Dynamo defeated White water while in a duel at eye level - half of all encounters ended in a draw - their longtime rival and defending champion from Berlin with two -to-one victories.

In the best determination of the ESR monsator Berlin saw the successful revenge for the earlier defeat suffered in the host BSG unit Crimmitschau.

The final tournament of the A group was held in late February / early March 1981 for the umpteenth time in Crimmitschau. The B- group met three weeks later again in Crimmitschau.

Relegation ( GDR best determination - district league )

Relegation was not until the end of February 1982 - a week before the start of the next B- group games - and instead was held as part of the A-Group tournament.

In the previous edition relegation for the first time the BSG structure Schonheide was able to secure participation in the upcoming GDR best determination.

District excretion

The playoff game to the relegation place was held in mid-February 1982.

The BSG structure Schonheide took it - for now for the third time in a row - the district champion in the relegation for the next best Determination 1981/82.

Name Changes

1The BSG HO foods Erfurt started in the preseason under the name BSG Motor Optima Erfurt.
