1982–83 AHL season
The 1982/83 season was the 47th regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, the 13 teams played 80 matches each. The four best teams in the North Division and the South Division then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The St. Catharines Saints were added as an expansion team in the league
- The Sherbrooke Jets were added as an expansion team in the league
- The New Brunswick Hawks were sold and played from now on under the name Moncton Alpines
- The Erie Blades were fused with the Baltimore Skipjacks of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and played from now on as Baltimore Skipjacks in the AHL

Calder Cup Playoffs
Mode
For the playoffs, the four teams from each division qualified. In the first two play-off rounds, the winner of each division were played. In round three, the two division winners to the finals. All play-off rounds, and the final was played in best- of-seven mode.
