1982–83 Football League Cup

The League Cup 1982/83 was the 23rd edition of the existing since 1960 English League Cup.

The competition started on 30 August 1982 with the First Round and ended on 26 March 1983, the final in Wembley. The title was awarded to the defending champions FC Liverpool, Manchester United defeated 2-1 in the final after extra time. Liverpool won so after 1981 and 1982 for the third year in a row the English League Cup. Manchester United was the first time in the final of this competition and won two months later, the FA Cup in 1982 /83. After the early lead for United by the 17 -year-old Norman Whiteside, Alan Kennedy was like in the 75th minute of Liverpool. Ronnie Whelan scored in the eighth minute of extra time the winner and caused quite the last cup success of coaching legend Bob Paisley.
