1982–83 NHL season
The NHL 1982/83 season was the 66th season in the National Hockey League. 21 teams each played 80 games. The Stanley Cup won by the New York Islanders after a 4-0 win in the final series against the Edmonton Oilers for the fourth time in a row. Wayne Gretzky led the scoring statistics. There were financial problems in St. Louis. The team was sold to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the Canadian Prairies, but intervened the owners of the other teams. The NHL took over the team and sold it to Harry Ornest for three million dollars. The Blues took this season not participate in the draft. Ended tragically in Vancouver the career of the young Bruins striker Normand Leville. In the first intermission he had to be taken to hospital, where one finds a cerebral hemorrhage. The player who was drafted in the first round, was paralyzed on one side. After only 75 games his career was over.
