1983 ABC Championship
The basketball Asia Championship 1983 ( officially: FIBA Asia Championship 1983) was the 12th edition of this tournament and took place from 20 until 29 November 1983 in Hong Kong instead. It was organized by FIBA Asia, the Asian Basketball Federation. The winner qualified for the Olympic Summer Games 1984.

Preliminary round
The first round was carried out in three groups of four teams and one group with three teams. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point.

The results of the games Philippines - Kuwait ( 78:57 ) and the Philippines - India ( 90:60 ) counted with 0-2 against Philippines, Philippines because two non- players who are eligible naturalized players ( Jeff Moore and Dennis Still ) were used.
Final round
The best of the groups A to D played in the final round for the places 1-4, the runners were playing for places 5-8, the third-placed play for places 9-12 and the three fourth-placed for places 13-15.
