1984 African Cup of Nations
The African Cup of Nations 1984 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the 14th playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from March 4 to 18 in Ivory Coast instead. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) again participated in eight teams of Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Malawi and Togo.
As in previous years, was also a qualifier for the reduction of the field with a record number of 36 candidates instead of eight finalists, which hosts Ivory Coast and Ghana were defending champion automatically qualified.

It was played as usual with two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group then played from the semi-finals in the knockout system from the tournament winner. The finals matches were played at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan and Bouaké Stade Bouaké in.
Cameroon won the tournament and was the first time African champions in football.
