1984 Winter Olympics

The XIV Olympic Winter Games were in 1984 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina) discharged. Other candidate cities were Sapporo Japanese and Gothenburg in Sweden. The IOC decided in the second ballot for Sarajevo. Initially, Sapporo was (Japan) still the favorite.

Outstanding athletes

  • Jens Weißflog (GDR) won, then still in the same style, gold and silver in ski jumping. Even gold and silver in ski jumping won Matti Nykänen ( FIN). Also from East Germany won gold in figure skating Katarina Witt.
