1985–86 Czechoslovak Extraliga season
The season 1985/86 1st League was the 43rd regular hosting of the highest Hockey Class of Czechoslovakia. In the playoff finals, the VSZ Kosice sat 3-2 victories against Dukla Jihlava through and won the first Czechoslovak league title in club history. Poldi Kladno SONP rose as Table from the relegation round to the second division, while the TJ Vítovice from this rise in the first league.

Mode
As in the previous season the league was played with twelve teams. Playoffs were introduced but again for the title. The total number of matches per team was 34 games in the main round. Subsequently, the top eight teams qualified for the playoffs and played there the masters from. The remaining four teams played in four games against each other in a relegation round, and the Table had to descend directly into the national championship.

Best scorer of the league was Vladimír Růžička of CHZ Litvinov, who scored a total of 41 goals in main round and playoffs together in 43 games.

The winners of the Czech and Slovak League second group occurred in a best - of-five series against each other for the promotion to the 1st League for the following season. Here, the Czech representative TJ Vitkovice prevailed.
