1986 African Cup of Nations

The African Cup of Nations 1986 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the 15th playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from 7 to 21 March for the third time after 1959 and 1974 place in Egypt. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) again participated in eight teams Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Morocco, Mozambique, Zambia and Senegal.

As in previous years, was also a qualifier for the reduction of the field of 34 applicants to eight finalists instead, where host and defending champions Egypt Cameroon qualified automatically.

It was played as usual with two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group then played from the semi-finals in the knockout system from the tournament winner. The games of the finals were held at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo and Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria.

Egypt hosts took advantage of the home field advantage, won the tournament and was the third time after 1957 and 1959 African champions in football.
