1987–88 DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey) season

The East German Ice Hockey Championship 1987/88 this year went smoothly with two derived series of the old and new titleholder from the SC Dynamo Berlin.

In the GDR best determination benefited last year's B- group winner, BSG Einheit White Water, from the indecisive battle of the supposed tournament favorites from Berlin and Crimmitschau and secured in the same year debut the title.

The best determination was, has become a tradition, held in Crimmitschau. While the A - group played their final round in March 1988, the teams of the B group met one week earlier one another in February.
