1987 NHL Entry Draft
The NHL Entry Draft in 1987, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, was held on 13 June 1987 in Joe Louis Arena in Detroit in the U.S. state of Michigan instead. It was the first draft of NHL history was played in the United States.
A total of 252 players were taken in twelve rounds. All players who were selected in the first round, came from Canada. With Pierre Turgeon and Brendan Shanahan the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils made a good choice with their top two picks. Joe Sakic in 15th place and Éric Desjardins than 38 were elected late only by their later achievements, while the scouts during late starter John LeClair no reproach could be made.
