1988–89 European Cup

The European Champions' Cup 1988/89 was the 34th edition of the competition. 31 club teams took part, including the defending champion and current champion from the Netherlands PSV Eindhoven and 30 other national champions last season. In the Camp Nou in Barcelona, the final was played on 24 May 1989.

The participants played in the Cup mode with pure (except for the final) round-trip games for the crown of European club football. In Torgleichstand first counted the greater number of away goals scored; there was also this a tie, the second leg was extended and, if necessary, immediately then discharged a penalty shootout to decide.

First round

Bye: Netherlands PSV Eindhoven

The first legs took place on 6 (BFC vs. Werder and Reykjavik vs. Monaco) / 7 September and the return matches on 4 (Monaco vs. Reykjavik) / 5./11. ( Vs. Werder. BFC ) held in October 1988.

2nd round

The first legs took place on November 9, 1988 October 26, the return games.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place on 15 March 1989 on the 1st, the return games.

Semifinal

The first legs took place on 19 April 1989 on the 5th, the return games.
