1988–89 Nationalliga A season

The season 1988/1989 was the 51th regular hosting of the Swiss National League A. In the final of the play-offs, the SC Bern sat against the HC Lugano through and thus became Swiss champion. The HC Davos failed in the relegation round at the league and dismounted in the National League B. From the NLB Zürcher SC reached the rise, while the HC Ajoie in the relegation round realized in the league.

Mode

After the qualifying round, to attend the Ten teams, the top eight teams play the Swiss Cup from the play-offs. The teams ranked 9 and 10 of the qualifying round play along with the top four teams in the National League B the relegation round.

Qualification

The NLA qualification was mainly dominated by the HC Lugano, which reached 29 wins in 36 games and only four times left as losers the ice. In contrast, the HC Davos lost 25 of his 36 league games and therefore missed the play-offs.

In the final for the title initially went the HC Lugano with a 6-2 victory for the visitors. However, the next two games decided the SC Bern for themselves, so this resulted in the series 2-1. The fourth game of the playoff finals Lugano won 5-1, but could not keep up in the decisive fifth game and lost 2:4. The SC Bern was so Swiss Champion 1989.
