1988–89 SM-liiga season

The SM- liiga season 1988/89 was the 14th season of the Finnish SM- liiga. Finnish champion for the third time and the second time since the introduction of the SM - liiga TPS Turku while Ässät Pori and Oulu Kärpät descended to the second division.

Regular Season

Mode

The ten teams in the SM- liiga first played in 44 regular season games against each other. During the first six teams for the play- offs qualified, the two last placed athlete had to play against the two best second division against relegation.
