1988–89 Soviet League season
The 1988/89 season the Wysschaja League was the 43rd season of the highest Soviet Hockey League. The Soviet league title secured for a total of 32 times CSKA Moscow.
Mode
The 14 teams in the league Wysschaja first played in a common main round in return game against any opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was 26.
Then the ten best teams in the main round played in the final round again four times against any opponent and the point best team in the final round was a Soviet champion.
The four last placed the main round met in the relegation to the six best second division. All teams contested in the relegation each 36 games. The top six teams played in the following season in the league Wysschaja, the other four teams in the second-rate Perwaja league.
For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
