1988 African Cup of Nations

The African Cup of Nations 1988 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the 16th playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from March 13 to 27 held in Morocco. Originally the tournament was to take place in Zambia. However, the country was the host of the tournament back. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) again participated in eight teams Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria, and Zaire.

As in previous years, was also a qualifier for the reduction of the field of 36 applicants to eight finalists will take place, with hosts Morocco and defending champions Egypt were automatically qualified.

It was played as usual with two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group then played from the semi-finals in the knockout system from the tournament winner. The finals matches were played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca and the Stade Moulay Abdallah Rabat.

Cameroon won the tournament and was after 1984 for the second time African champions in football.
