1989–90 European Cup Winners' Cup

The European Cup Winners 'Cup in 1989/90 was the 30th playout of the competition of European Football Cup Winners' Cup. 33 club teams from 32 countries took part, including defending champions FC Barcelona, 20 domestic cup winners and 12 losing Cup Finalists (FC Chernomorets, AS Monaco FC Admira / Wacker, FC Groningen, Djurgårdens IF, Brann Bergen, Cork City FC, Dinamo Bucharest, Real Valladolid, Ikast FS, Slovan Bratislava and Ferencvaros Budapest). Clubs from England were still excluded after the disaster of Heysel from participation.

From Germany were DFB-Pokal winners Borussia Dortmund, from the GDR fdgb Cup winners BFC Dynamo, from Austria OFB Cup finalist FC Admira / Wacker and Switzerland Cupsieger Grasshopper Club Zurich at the start.

The finale at the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg defeated last year's finalist Sampdoria RSC Anderlecht 2-0 after extra time.

Scorer was Gianluca Vialli from the champions Sampdoria with 7 gates.

Mode

The participants played as usual in pure Cup mode with return games the winner. Was there after two games Torgleichstand, the number of away goals scored decided ( away goals ). Was also equal in number to an extension took place in the return game in which was also the away goals rule. Ruled by the end of the extension is still a tie, a penalty shoot-out was performed. The final was decided on one game at a neutral venue. If the score is level after extra time the winner would also have been determined in a penalty shootout.

Preliminary round

The first leg took place on August 16, the second leg on August 30, 1989 instead.

First round

The first legs took place on 12-13. September and the return matches on 26-27. Of September 1989.

2nd round

The first legs took place on 17-18. October, the return legs held from November 1, 1989.

Quarterfinals

The first legs were held on 6/7 March, the return matches from 20 to 22 March 1990.

Semifinal

The first legs were on 3/4 April and the return legs held on 18 April 1990.
