1989–90 FDGB-Pokal

1989/90 The 39th edition of the fdgb Cup men was discharged. She was also the last edition under this title. Even during the current competition renaming was made in " Cup of the unions ." 1991 was played at the " NOFV Cup ". There were 63 eligible teams: The teams in the GDR Oberliga, the DDR -Liga and the 15 District Cup winners ( below marked with *) respectively from the previous season. The final took place on June 4, 1990 for the first time held in East Berlin's Friedrich -Ludwig -Jahn -Sportpark. Three years after Hansa Rostock with a second league representatives had last reached the final, was with PSV Schwerin again a team from the DDR series in the cup final. Only a few weeks earlier, the Mecklenburg had transformed from the SG Dynamo in the police sports club. They were 14th in the GDR - league underdogs and had with Frank Prange only one player with league experience (BFC Dynamo ) in their ranks. However, with Andreas Reinke, Matthias Stammann and Steffen Baumgart were promising talent in the team, which made later in the Bundesliga career.
