1989 NHL Entry Draft

The NHL Entry Draft in 1989, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, was held on June 17, 1989 at the Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington in the U.S. state of Minnesota instead. Here, the Draft was broadcast live for the first time from the U.S. television channel Sports Channel America.

A total of 252 players were taken in twelve rounds. With the Swede Mats Sundin the first time a European has been considered as first overall in the draft, 13 years after a Swede had been drawn as the first European in the first round with Björn Johansson also.
