1990–91 ice hockey Bundesliga season

The season 1990 /91 Hockey league was the 33rd season of the highest German league and also the first all-German championship after the Second World War. Mode

The Hockey area was the first sport that took place before the unification of the political unit and thus played a pioneering role. The number of Bundesliga teams was increased by the integration of the last two remaining teams in the GDR Oberliga, the SC Dynamo Berlin from 1990 EHC Dynamo Berlin and SG Dynamo White Water, from 1990, the PEV white water, to twelve. While the increase in the Bundesliga in the determination of the German master changed nothing - was played according to the proven play-off system the championship - there were some changes in the competition format in the relegation question. The first play -down round was played in the mode " Best of Seven", the second in the " Best of Five" mode.

The descent question was decided jointly by the financial situation of the Bundesliga clubs. The team of Eintracht Frankfurt retired after the season back for financial reasons from the Bundesliga. This decision of the Frankfurt fell even before the play-offs was completed for the last free place Bundesliga.
