1990 African Championships in Athletics
The 7th Athletics Championships Africa took place from 3 to 6 October 1990 at the Cairo International Stadium instead. Cairo was the third time after 1982 and 1985, the venue for athletics African Championship.
Decisions were made in 23 disciplines for men and 18 for women disciplines. For women, there were no contests in the 3000 -meter steeplechase, triple jump, pole vault and hammer throw.
It was attended by 218 athletes from 23 countries participate. Zoubida Laayouni (MAR, discus throw ) won their sixth title, Lucienne N'Da (CIV, high jump ) and Hanan Ahmed Khaled (EGY, shot put ) each won for the third time. Furthermore, the successful title defense Othmane Belfaa (ALG, high jump ), Robert Welikhe (KEN, shot put ), Hassan Ahmed Hamad succeeded (EGY, discus throw ), Dinah Yankey (GHA, 100 - meter hurdles ), Chioma Ajunwa (NGR, long jump) and Agnetha Chelimo (KEN, 5000 m track walking) and the Nigerian seasons of women over 4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m. The Nigerian men triumphed for the fifth time in a row in the 4 x 100 - meter relay.
Outstanding athlete in Cairo was Fatima Yusuf, the gold medals in the 200 - and 400 -meter run and won in two sprint relays.
