1991–92 AHL season

The 1991/92 season was the 56th regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, the 15 teams played 80 matches each. The four best teams from each division then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Newmarket Saints were to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, resettled and played from now on under the name of St. John 's Maple Leafs

Calder Cup Playoffs

For the playoffs, the four teams from each division qualified.

In the first two play-off rounds, the winner of each division were played. Among the three teams who were then still in the competition, was the one who had received the most points in the regular season, a bye to the final. All play-off rounds, and the final was played in best- of-seven mode.
