1991 AFC Women's Championship

The 8th Asian Cup Women was held in the period from May 26 to June 8, 1991 in Japan. It was played in Fukuoka. The winner was the third time in a row China to a 5-0 victory over Japan. This tournament was also the qualifier for the inaugural World Cup of Women 1991.

Mode

There were no qualifiers. All nine teams entered directly took part in the tournament and were divided into a group of four and five Grupe. Within the preliminary groups, each team plays once against each other. The group winners and the best runners-up spot to reach the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the finals, the semi-final losers play for third place.

China is the third time Asian champions. Besides China, as the host, Japan and Taiwan have qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup 1991.
