1991 Men's European Volleyball Championship
The Volleyball European Championship Men 1991 was held from September 7 to 15 in Germany. The host came after reunification the first time with a joint team. The games were held in Berlin, Karlsruhe and Hamburg. The Soviet Union won for the twelfth time overall title.
Mode
First, a preliminary round was held, in which the twelve teams were divided into two groups of six. The top two teams in each group reached the semi-finals. The third-placed and fourth played for places five to eight, the rest of the team to the ranks of nine to twelve.

Qualification
Germany was set as host. The top three teams in the European championship in 1989 were also automatically qualified. These were Italy as the defending champion, the Second and the Third Netherlands Sweden.
Twenty teams played in four groups of eight other places. The top two teams in each group qualified for the final tournament.
