1991 Tippeligaen

The Tippeligaen 1991 was the 47th season of Norway's highest football league and the first season under the new name Tippeligaen. The season began on April 27, 1991 and ended with the third relegation match on 19 October 1991.

Mode

Twelve teams played in the league in a simple round-trip round against each other, so that each team completed 22 games. The tenth -place and prevent third last had to do to avoid relegation in addition relegation matches against the two third of the first Divisjon (Group A and B).

Season

The season was dominated by Viking Stavanger. From first to last game led the team to the table and secured the championship three games before the end of the season. It was the eighth championship for Viking. The two climbers Lyn Oslo and Sogndal IL were able to keep the class. Brann Bergen secured the league in the relegation.

Play off

Brann Bergen had as a Third to last in the relegation against Bryne FK and Strindheim IL, the third of the first Divisjon (Group A and B). With two wins Bergen secured the league.
