The 111th U.S. Open 1991 an international tennis tournament and took place from 26 August to 8 September 1991 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park in New York, USA.

Defender of the single were Pete Sampras and Gabriela Sabatini in the men with the ladies. In the men's doubles were Pieter Aldrich and Danie Visser, in women's doubles Gigi Fernandez and Martina Navratilova and Mixed Elizabeth Smylie and Todd Woodbridge, the defending champion. However, the title could be defended by any single candidate. In men's singles, the Swede Stefan Edberg defeated the American Jim Courier. It was his first U.S. Open title and his fifth overall Grand Slam success. With this triumph, he replaced the German Boris Becker from on top of the world rankings and was able to end the year for the second time in a row as world number one.

In the women's Yugoslavian Monica Seles defeated Navratilova Martina the American. It was Seles ' first triumph at the U.S. Open and her fourth Grand Slam title overall. With this success, they broke the German Steffi Graf from the top of world rankings from and finished the year as world number 1
