1992 African Championships in Athletics
The 8th European Athletics Championships Africa took place between June 28, 1992 in Belle Vue Maurel (Mauritius) on 25. Venue was the Sir Anerood Jugnauth Stadium ( Stade today Anjalay ).
Decisions were made in 22 disciplines for men and 19 for women disciplines. For women, there were no contests in the 3000 -meter steeplechase, pole vault and hammer throw, but for the first time in the triple jump. The men's marathon was removed from the program.
It was attended by 336 athletes from 24 countries participate. Five athletes managed to defend the title: Ayodele Aladefa (NGR, long jump), Toussaint Rabenala (MDG, triple jump ), Derartu Tulu (ETH, 3000 -meter run and 10,000 -meter run ), Lucienne N'Da (CIV, high jump for the fourth time in a row ) and Seraphina Nyauma (KEN, Javelin ). In addition, the Nigerian 4 x 400 meters relay women won for the fourth time overall and for the third time in a row at Africa championships.
Having started the abolition of apartheid in South Africa, South African athletes were allowed to participate in athletics Africa Championships for the first time.
