1992 Summer Paralympics

The 9th Summer Paralympics were held from September 3 to September 14 in 1992 in Barcelona. The matches were played at the 1992 Summer Olympics in port. The organizing committee had the rules and qualification hurdles intensified in the run, which resulted in the reduction of the participating athletes, but also raised the level of sports. After the Paralympics, the ICC also organized games for the mentally handicapped in Madrid.

The mascot of the Games was a stylized skier named Petra.

Ceremonies

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony took place on September 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. Among the 65,000 visitors was IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain. The flame was ignited by the physically disabled archer Antonio Rebello by an arrow.

Sports

In 15 sports was fought for medals. In wheelchair tennis, which had been four years previously been introduced as a demonstration sport, medals were awarded for the first time.
