1993 African Championships in Athletics
The 9th IAAF Africa championships were held to 27 June 1993 at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban, South Africa from 23.
Decisions were made in 22 disciplines for men and 19 for women disciplines. For women, there were no contests in the 3000 -meter steeplechase, pole vault and hammer throw.
It was attended by 294 athletes from 32 countries participate. Nine athletes managed to defend the title in their discipline: Okkert Brits (RSA, pole vault ), Toussaint Rabenala (MDG, triple jump ), Hakim Toumi (ALG, hammer throw ), Tom Petranoff (RSA, Javelin ), Elana Meyer (RSA, 1500 meters run), Derartu Tulu (ETH, 3000 -meter run ), Lizette Etsebeth (RSA, discus throw ), Chrisna Oosthuizen (RSA, Heptathlon ) and Dounia Kara (ALG, 5000 m track Walk ). In addition, the Nigerian 4 x 400 meters relay women won for the fifth time overall and for the fourth time in a row at Africa championships.
