1995–96 DEL season

The DEL 1995/96 season was the second season of the German Ice Hockey League. For the last year resigned for financial reasons Mad Dogs Munich came in 1995 added the SC Riessersee, however after the season also had to stop for financial reasons. Also ESG Saxony white water and the EC withdraw for economic reasons in Hannover from the game. German champion was the Düsseldorf EC.

Mode and rules

This season was played in contrast to the previous year, excluding regional groups, but with pre-and intermediate round. After a single round with round-trip between the 18 local teams, the table was divided and the teams on the straight bursting played against each other a single round while in odd places playing off an analog intermediate round. In a subsequent play-off round of the 16 best teams in the Main Round competed against each other.

Main Round

After completing the main round, the first four teams were separated by just two points, while the only two teams from the new Länder the catchment did not make the play- offs.

To guarantee the supposedly inferior teams two home games, was played haahh in the order, which meant that Frankfurt had only one home game in the playoffs, even though they were the better placed team in the main round.
