The season 1995/96 was the 58th regular season of the National League A. In the play-off final of the EHC Kloten against SC Bern were Swiss champions.

Were played by the ten teams first two double rounds of 18 games in which the eight participants were determined for the playoffs. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals were played each after the mode best of five. The playout have been played in the Best of Seven mode, the loser had to play against the top two of the NLB to the ascent and descent.
This remained the HC Fribourg- Gottéron in the National League A, while the HC Lausanne had the last remaining place in the league qualifier against the master of the NLB, the Grasshoppers Zurich, and the Second, the HC La Chaux -de-Fonds, play.
