1995–96 UEFA Cup

The UEFA Cup 1995/96 was the 25th edition of the competition and was won by Bayern Munich. The German record champions defeated in the finals of the French club Girondins Bordeaux and was according to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1988 ), Eintracht Frankfurt (1980) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (1975, 1979), the fourth German club to have won the trophy.

More German participants were of the SC Freiburg ( eliminated in the first round ), the 1st FC Kaiserslautern (2nd round ) and Werder Bremen (3rd round).

Mode

Starting this season, the two clubs over the UEFA Intertoto Cup for the first time were able to qualify for the UEFA Cup. This season, these were the two French clubs Racing Strasbourg and Bordeaux that went into the first round. The competition was as usual held in six rounds, in home and away matches. In Torgleichstand initially decided the number of away goals scored, then an extension has been reached no decision on this after two periods of 15 minutes was followed by a penalty shoot-out, until the winner was determined.
