1995 Citizen Cup

The Citizen Cup in 1995 was the regatta series for the determination of U.S. defender ( defender ) in the America's Cup the same year. Three defenders syndicates with four yachts of the International America's Cup Class participated in the elimination races in four round-robin rounds ( round robin ). In the final, the Defender of the America 's Cup against the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup [ elimination races for the challengers ( challenger ) of the America 's Cup ] was determined.

Citizen Cup competition in 1995

For the first time in the history of the competition took part in the Citizen Cup 1995 all-women crew in part, on the yacht Mighty Mary of America3 Foundation syndicate, led by the U.S. businessman Bill Koch. For special stir was also caused the yacht Young America, whose body of the Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein had designed. It was because of their painting also called Mermaid ( mermaid ) and is the only AC yacht, which is now on display as the last work of art by Roy Lichtenstein in the museum Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, New York.

Dennis Conner with Stars & Stripes won the Citizen Cup 1995. The team opted for the fastest yacht in the elimination race, the Young America and tried in the 29th America's Cup to defend the Cup in 1995 against the New Zealand Black Magic (NZL -32). The Team New Zealand with the helmsman Russell Coutts won against Dennis Conner 5-0 victories and won the America's Cup for the first time to New Zealand. So Conner had after 1983 lost the Cup for the second time.
