1996–97 DFB-Pokal
DFB Cup winner in 1997 was the VfB Stuttgart. In the final at the Olympiastadion Berlin VfB Stuttgart won 2-0 on June 14, 1997 against the then third division Energie Cottbus. Defending champion and relegated Bundesliga 1 FC Kaiserslautern already retired in the first round against the third division SpVgg Greuther Fürth, which arose prior to the season from the SpVgg Fuerth and TSV Vestenbergsgreuth.
In Europe Cup Winners' Cup Stuttgart reached the last German team the final, which lost the club against the English champions FC Chelsea 0:1.
