1996–97 EHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup
At EHF European Cup Winners' Cup in 1996/97 took 30 handball club teams participate from 29 countries. These qualified in the previous season in their home countries in the cup competition for the European Cup. At the 21st edition of the Cup Winners' Cup competition, was able to Istochnik Rostov for the first time a team from Russia win the cup.
First round
The first leg of the first round took place between the 11th - 19th October and the return matches between the 13th - 20th October 1996 instead.
With a bye VfB Leipzig and defending TV Lützellinden attracted directly into the knockout stages.
Second round
In the second round found the first legs of 9 - 15th November and the return legs on 16 - 17th November 1996 instead.
Quarterfinals
In the quarterfinals, found the first legs of 8 - 9th January and the return legs on 15 - 16th January 1997 instead.
Semifinal
In the semifinals, the first leg on 29 March and the second legs were held on 5 April 1997.
Final
The first leg took place on 3 May 1997 Rostov-on- Don and the return leg on 11 May 1997, Leipzig.
