1996–97 Slovenian Hockey League season

The 1996/97 season was the sixth staging of the Slovenian Hockey League after the declaration of independence of Slovenia from Yugoslavia. She was discharged with eight teams. Defending champion and also the new champion was the HDD Olimpija Ljubljana.

Participants and mode

The field grew from the previous year back from six to eight teams. The HK Celje returned to the financially related withdrawal during the 1994/95 season in the top flight back. Newly arrived HK Kranjska Gora.

The regular season was played in two groups. The HK Jesenice, the HK Bled and the reigning champion HDD Olimpija Ljubljana took before hosting the Slovenian League at the Alpen League part (see Alps League 1996/97). The points total in the regular season ( 48 Ljubljana, Jesenice with 34 and Bled 27) were taken for the table of the Slovenian league. The three teams completed subsequent to the Alps League still a round-trip round against the other five teams, the points scored are added to the Alps, taken from the league.

The other five teams completed parallel to the Alpine League a three and a half times the round-trip round to play out the fourth participant for the final round. In the final round, a double round-trip round was played. This was followed by the playoffs.
