1996–97 Thailand Soccer League

From 1916-1995 Kor Royal Cup was the top division in Thai football. As of 1996, the Thailand Premier League replaced the Kor Royal Cup from the top division. From 1996-1998, was named the Premier League Johnnie Walker Thailand Soccer League.

The first season of TPL consisted of 18 clubs. The top four at the end of the season qualified for the final round of the championship.

The last six teams had to dismount 1 League in the introduced from 1997 Thailand Division.
