1996 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships
The 60th Ice Hockey World Men Championships in 1996 were held at the following locations and at the following times:

Mode
There were few changes compared to last year this year. The C1 group played again in the desired thickness of eight teams ( last year 9) and was re- named C group. The C2 group was renamed again in D group and reduced from ten to eight teams. This reduction made in advance of the D- Cup qualifiers required.
A World Championship
The World Cup of the A group was held in the Austrian capital Vienna from 21 April to 5 May 1996. It was played in the Vienna City Hall ( 9,500 seats) and the Albert- Schultz- ice rink with 5,000 seats.
The tournament victory achieved somewhat surprisingly the Czech national team, so - if we include the successes of Czechoslovakia with a - the seventh title win for their country realized. In the final, there was a 4-2 victory over Canada. The national team of the United States won the bronze medal, reaching its first medal win at a World Cup since 1962.

C World Cup
The C- group of the World Cup was on 22 to 31 March 1996 in Jesenice and Bled, Slovenia, discharged. Venues were the Dvorana Podmežakla in Jesenice with a capacity of 4,500 spectators and the Hokejska dvorana Bled with 1,732 seats. The group winner was the Kazakh national ice hockey team that rose so that in the B group.

D World Cup
The D- group of the World Cup was from 25 to 31 March 1996 in Kaunas and Elektrėnai, Lithuania, discharged.
First, the Israeli team could only qualify for D- Cup, that the defeats were converted at the qualifying tournament against opponents Greece because of the use of unauthorized players on the Greek side at the green table in a 5-0 victory. However, when D- WM befell Israel the same fate. It lost the first round matches against Bulgaria and Belgium on green table with 0:5, as it began with the Russia - Israel Ariel Ben- Youri and Alex Vital two non- players eligible players.
