1997–98 DEL season

The DEL 1997/98 season was the fourth season of the German Ice Hockey League. German champion was the defending champion Adler Mannheim, while the Kaufbeurer Adler withdrew after the 15th match day, the Düsseldorf EC after the season due to financial problems of the league.

Mode and rules

The game was initially a single round of 28 games per team. Then the teams played in the squares one through six, a master lap, while the remaining nine teams in a qualifying round of the eight places in the play-off qualifying round playing off, in turn, the last two participants in the play-offs were played.

2nd round

The second round of the play -offs qualification has been played in the mode " Best of Three".

Thus, the Hannover Scorpions and Krefeld Penguins qualified for the play- offs.

In order for the Adler Mannheim were the third time in their history, and for the second time in a row, German champion and thus increased at the same time on the DEL - record champions.
