The Elitserien season 1997/98 was the 23rd season of the Swedish Elitserien. Swedish Champion for the fifth time in their history of Färjestad BK, while the Södertälje SK relegation to the second division.

Mode
The twelve teams in the Elitserien contested first ever 46 games. During the first eight teams for the play- offs qualified, nine and ten the season was over for the teams ranked and the two last placed had in the Kvalserien for the league against the best second division compete. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.

The quarterfinals and semifinals, and the final were played in the mode " Best-of -Five".
