Course of the season and Table

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the three- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement.

Previous relegated Nancy and - for the first time in their history - FC Lorient were comparatively determined as early riser; for third place in the standings contrast, there was a decided only on the 42nd Round race between four teams, in which the Peugeot " business club" from Sochaux almost succeeded against relegated Lille. Also until the end of the season, the final decision was about who Mulhouse, Martigues and Toulon in the third division would have to accompany. It finally hit the " village kicker" from Louhans Cuiseaux, so that among other things the French giants AS Saint- Étienne was spared this fate. The main focus of soccer interested public but focused less on the decisions in the Division 2 than on the starting immediately after end of season Welmeisterschaftsendrunde in their own country.

In the 462 encounters 1,083 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 2.34 goals per game. Goalscorer and thus winning the league's top scorer was Réginald Ray from Le Mans with 20 hits. It should be noted that the " Armenians " from Valence with its 22 undecided lots lined up a new league record. For the following season came with En Avant Guingamp, La Berrichonne Châteauroux and AS Cannes three relegated from Division 1 added; from the third- highest division increased to two teams, namely AC Ajaccio and CS Sedan.

(A) = relegated from Division 1; (N) = climbers from the National
